Mikumi National Park and Udzungwa Mountains National Park are key destinations on Tanzania’s southern safari circuit, each offering unique experiences.

Mikumi National Park: Located approximately 300 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam, Mikumi is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park, covering about 3,230 square kilometers. It’s part of the larger Mikumi-Selous ecosystem, providing a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, zebras, and wildebeests. The park’s accessibility from Dar es Salaam makes it a popular choice for both short and extended safaris.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park: Situated about 350 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam, Udzungwa Mountains National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity and is often referred to as the “Galápagos of Africa.” The park features dense rainforests, diverse flora and fauna, and numerous hiking trails, including the popular route to the 170-meter Sanje Waterfalls. It’s a haven for birdwatchers and hikers, with over 400 bird species recorded and several endemic primate species, such as the Udzungwa red colobus monkey.

Together, Mikumi and Udzungwa offer a blend of traditional safari experiences and immersive nature treks, making them essential stops for travelers exploring Tanzania’s southern circuit.

Itinerary

Day 1 :
DRIVE FROM DAR TO MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK - AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE

Early in the morning, picked up at the hotel / airport in Dar-Es-Salaam and drive to Mikumi,
for a park game, till sunset. Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian (Meal Plan: HB).

Day 2 :
MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK - A FULL DAY GAME DRIVE

Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian (Meal Plan: FB).

Day 3 :
MORNING HIKING AT UDZUNGWA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast, go for a hiking through the beautiful forests and landscape scenery
of Udzungwa Mountains with packed lunch boxes with a professional guide, on the way you
will learn about various trees used for traditional healings, a bird life while heading to the
top for a great and an amazing view of the 'Sanje Waterfalls' And when on top of the Water
fall, you can have a great view of the enormous Kilombero Sugarcane Valley (one of the
biggest Tanzania's sugarcane plantation. Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian (Meal
Plan: FB).

Day 04 :
MORNING DRIVE BACK TO DAR-ES-SALAAM
